Pierce County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) are volunteers who train and qualify to provide emergency communications support when disaster strikes. ARES assists local agencies during windstorms, flooding, earthquakes, or any incident that disrupts ordinary day to day communication.
District 5 ARES Announces New Membership Program
New District 5 ARES membership and training requirements launched on January 1, 2026.The new program defines four qualification levels of formal membership within the all-volunteer auxiliary communications support group. Program requirements are summarized here. The program applies to all new applicants and current members. Current members will need to complete the training and participation requirements for the first two levels (Candidate and Home-based Operator) by July 1, 2026, to maintain their membership status.
